This book is primarily concerned with reliability analysis and Life cycle costing of CNC Machine. Reliability and life cycle cost analysis of a CNC machine deals with many opportunities both for the manufacturers and the customers. The analysis permits to understand the behavior of the machine and to obtain useful information in order to form maintenance policies based on the analytical results. Firstly, the FTA method is discussed and possible failure modes are found by constructing fault tree of CNC machine. The qualitative as well as quantitative evaluations of CNC machine are presented. The components wise as well as subsystem wise reliabilities have been estimated. Further, maintainability and availability measurers are estimated. The total life cycle cost of CNC machine is also estimated with the help of appropriate life cycle cost model. The detailed life cycle cost analysis provides useful information for decision making in purchasing a product, in minimizing LCC and identifying the critical components. Based on detailed LCC, reliability improvement measures are also suggested from which improved reliability as well as improved life cycle cost is also estimated.

This book is a study about the critical components of CNC machine. As performance of CNC machine great depends on its main or critical components i.e. spindle and ballscrew, and this performance is interrelated with machine tool and machining process. Initially we take spindle for analysis in this report. For analyzing force we take most common process perform on CNC machine say drilling process and turning, in which torque and thrust force is generated, and this force calculated by mathematical modeling. Using this torque and thrust force we are analyzing in ANSYS 13.0 Workbench software. These software gives the most preciously result in analysis and optimization point of view. As the critical components like spindle and ballscrew is to be analyzed for that stress analysis, total deformation and maximum shear stress is carried out in the software. Using this FEA analysis optimization of spindle is being done. And another critical component of CNC machine i.e. ballscrew is analyzing and further checking their acceptability whether it is working within permissible limits or not. And also selection methodology of ballscrew and service life is to be calculated.

This work presents new approaches for motion design and analysis suitable for the integration of Computer Aided Design (CAD), Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) and Computerized Numerical Control (CNC). Therefore, not only shape but also kinematic information is conveyed in an efficient manner that can be easily implemented in CAD/CAM systems and eventually interpreted by CNC manufacturing equipment. By using dual quaternions, quaternions and planar quaternions, the displacements of a rigid body in Cartesian space are mapped into points in the image space of displacements, transforming the kinematic problem of motion interpolation into a geometric problem where the powerful techniques for curve and surface interpolation from Computer Aided Geometric Design (CAGD) can be readily applied. Three techniques are developed using quaternion biarcs, a four point interpolatory subdivision scheme and its tensor product version. A preliminary approach for mechanism simulation using subdivision schemes is also attempted. The results obtained have applications in CNC tool path generation, robot path planning, and computer animation.
